Post-Certification RequirementsList Item 1
After becoming certified, you remain certified for six months. During this period, you are required to complete 250 hours of direct, face-to-face work with individuals or groups under supervision.
You must maintain a log of your direct service hours. Your supervisor—who must be trained and certified as a Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS) in the State of Texas—must review and sign off on your hours during supervision.
While you are completing your 250 hours, your organization may bill for the services you provide.
-
Extension of Post-Certification HoursList Item 2
If you do not complete your 250 hours within the initial six-month period, you may request an additional six months to fulfill this requirement.
Submit your request at least 30 days before your certification expiration date by emailing admin@tcbap.org
. In your email, include:
Your full name
Your certificate number
The date your current six-month certification expires
Your request for a six-month extension
It’s a fairly simple process.
-
Completion of Supervised HoursList Item 3
After you have successfully completed your 250 supervised hours, your Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS) will review and verify your documentation. If all requirements are met, your supervisor must provide a formal letter of approval confirming that you are ready to advance to full certification as a Certified Peer Specialist.
At this stage, you will need to:
- Gather your documentation – including your supervision log, signed hours, and the supervisor’s letter of approval.
- Upload all required documents into your Certemy portal on the TCB website. Certemy will guide you through the submission process.
- Confirm submission – double-check that your log, certificates, and approval letter are visible in your Certemy account.
Once your documents are reviewed and approved through Certemy, you will be granted full certification as a Peer Specialist for a period of two years.
Your name will also be added to the TCB website as a Certified Peer Specialist. Please allow up to 60 days for your name to appear. If your name does not appear after that time, you should contact TCB directly for assistance.

Maintaining Your CertificationList Item 4
Once you are fully certified, you are responsible for continuing your professional development and meeting renewal requirements every two years. To renew your certification, you must:
- Earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
- Complete 17 hours of CEUs in approved training.
- Complete an additional 3 hours of Ethics CEUs.
- ⚠️ Do not wait until the end to get your CEUs. As you complete them, upload your certificates into your Certemy portal so you don’t risk losing them. Gathering and uploading them a little at a time is easier and better for your well-being.
2. Obtain a Current Background Check
- You are required to complete a current background check.
- You must provide proof of the background check (copies will be required).
3. Submit Renewal Materials and Payment
- Upload all CEU certificates, proof of background check, and other required documentation into your Certemy portal on the TCB website.
4. Pay the renewal fee for the next two-year certification period.
✅ Start the renewal process early—about 30 days prior to your expiration date—to allow TCB time to process your paperwork and to ensure you remain in full compliance with certification requirements.
Once all requirements are submitted and approved, your certification will be renewed for an additional two years.
